Although they made the song more famous, R.E.M. did not originate this song.  This song was from the late 60's, done by a band named The Clique.

This live version clearly shows the Michael Stipe/Mike Mills dual lead vocal on the song.  I really wish they harmonized more.  They worked well together, vocally.

(Edit: 25 January 2022):  Actually, that's not Michael Stipe.  That's Gary Zekley, who was one of the writers of the song.  The fact is, Michael Stipe didn't much like this song... and isn't at all on stage for this performance.
