When I first heard in 1992 that Tori Amos was covering Smells Like Teen Spirit on her Crucify ep, I was a bit mortified. Of course once I actually heard it, I dug it. It's different. Over the years she has done the same with a number unexpected tunes. In 2001, she released Strange Little Girls a collection of 12 covers with artists ranging from Eminem, Lloyd Cole, The Beatles and Slayer. If you haven't heard it, check it out. It's become one of my favorite records by her. Here's the video for the title track (originally done by The Stranglers).
