21 March 2025 - Great Big Sea - Run Runaway

Newfoundland and Labrador folk group Great Big Sea covered a Slade classic as their debut single, and it ended up being a pretty big hit.  

It was a Scottish-tinged rock anthem, and while Great Big Sea make it a little folkier, it still retains the Scottish feel.  

Now hear them do it live.   They make folk.... rock.   For what they essentially make into a sea shanty, this song really kicks ass. 

20 March 2025 - The Beaches - Maneater

The Beaches covering fellow Canadian icon Nelly Furtado, and not Hall and Oates, is straight fire.    The Beaches truly understand synth rock, and in fact embrace it.  

We really should post about them on Wicked Guilty Pleasures sometime. 

5 March 2025 - Sophie Powers – Heart Shaped Box

It takes a GIANT cast iron set to cover Nirvana.

It takes talent to add to the song artistically, which Canadian artist Sophie Powers absolutely does.  

And yes, I say that she, at a young age, understands Kurt Cobain's original delivery and matches it.  

And I don't think she's singing about Courtney Love's vagina. 

Some artists do covers in a studio and leave it at that. 

Some pour it out live. 

Get you a girl who can do both.
