22 May 2017 - Sky Ferreira - Falling

I shudder to call this a cover.  Even though Julee Cruise provided the original vocal to this song, it was Angelo Badalamenti's haunting musical arrangement that makes the song memorable. And yes, he and his bands are accompanying here.

But it is a cover, at least of the vocal version. Sky Ferreira is much more of a belter than Julee Cruise, with a higher voice, bringing a slightly different feel to the vocals.

I'm down to the third paragraph and I haven't even mentioned the obvious - this is the theme from Twin Peaks, which is currently experiencing a revival on Showtime, and premiered last night.  And yes, both Sky Ferreira (in a non-musical role) and Julee Cruise (as the roadhouse singer) are scheduled to appear.  As a huge Twin Peaks fan, I am quite excited.

And when I found this cover, I was excited that everything had come full circle.  So enjoy.

19 April 2017 - Kirsten Dunst - Turning Japanese (HD)

In my most surprising discovery this week, Kirsten Dunst not only can sing, but sings the hell out of the Vapors classic.  I mean, she's sung in a few movies (Spider-Man 3 comes to mind) but this is a different, unexpected level.

The video isn't entirely SFW, folks - there are flashes of questionable anime - so be careful. This was part of a performance art piece directed by pop artist Takashi Murakami along with McG, so its very bright, anine-influenced look isn't entirely unexpected.  Enjoy!

14 April 2017 - Kiefer Sutherland - Ways to Be Wicked

We posted the original Lone Justice version of this song over on Wicked Guilty Pleasures today.

So it delighted us to see that Kiefer Sutherland not only does a cover, but an EXCELLENT cover, of this song.
